Parent Association

Parents play the most important role in their child’s life.  Studies have proven a key factor to success for a child in their educational studies is directly linked to parent participation, and partnership with staff in the child’s learning environment.  We encourage families to embrace the Fraser-Woods community by participating in school activities.

The Parent Association (PA) is a volunteer organization led by parents and is supported by Fraser Woods Montessori School. As a parent, you are automatically a member! Our goal is to promote family involvement in the fabric of the school enriching each child's education and each family's experience.  We host many events throughout the year that are geared to create partnership, parent involvement, and providing support for parents in their vital roles.  Some of these include, field trips, parent meetings, mom/dad playgroups, family activities and guest speakers on topics of interest, i.e. nutrition, discipline, computer technology…

Additionally, there are school events that allow the community to get together for social purposes, like family dinners, Family Fun Day, Holiday Celebration, our Annual Auction and days where parents are invited to join our children for a special event.  Creating a strong bond as a community is very important to all, children, staff and families alike. Siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relatives are all encouraged to contribute to and participate in our community.

Families support FWS by giving their time and talents by volunteering through the Parent Association and supporting the annual fund giving.

Parent Association (PA) Mission Statement

The Fraser Woods Montessori School Parent Association (PA) is a volunteer organization that:

  • Facilitates communication among and between families and the school, and serves as a liaison between community and school.
  • Presents forums for parents to engage in life long learning, one of Fraser Woods core values.
  • Fundraises in tandem with the Development Committee of the Board, for the enrichment of our children's school experience and help meet the needs of the school.
  • Plans social and cultural events to enrich community life.
  • Offers many opportunities for parents to volunteer in all appropriate aspects of school life.
  • Provides an overarching organization for room parents, facilitating their cohesion and efficacy.

Volunteer

Maria Montessori believed that the children’s educational experience would be enhanced if their parents were involved in the fabric of their school community. Last year, over 87% of FWS families chose to volunteer in some capacity. This number reflects the energetic level of commitment within our community – a terrific group of dedicated families, faculty and staff.

While many families choose to volunteer above and beyond our requirement, each family is expected to volunteer at least 10 hours each year.  Parent participation plays a key role in ensuring their children receive a complete education of the highest caliber.  Some families are unable to commit to the time requirements and choose to pay the Opt Out Fee (OOF) of $20 per hour or $200.
