Theater at FWM and the FWM Shakespeare Repertory
Inspired by Maria Montessori’s concept of immersive education, the FWM Theater Program seeks to create experiences of unprecedented excellence, inspired by a love of language, a playful spirit of inquiry, and a celebration of community. We consider the performing arts a heightened form of sharing and believe in a multi-age/multi-generational mentoring model that encourages confidence, commitment and compassion. Our Shakespeare Repertory encourages a spirit of inclusion and enthusiasm that brings Shakespeare’s witty and poignant characters and their universal dilemmas into the creative paradigm of even our youngest students.
At its fullest iteration, our Middle School and Upper Elementary students produce and perform full productions that have included A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, As You Like It and Much Ado about Nothing, as well as the original teaching play, All the World’s a Stage. The dramatic arts also infuse our Humanities curriculum, where students write original historic plays and dramatize scenes from literature selections. In addition, our theater productions have included Broadway musicals such as Seussical and The Lion King and operas such as Mozart’s Magic Flute.
