Tuition does not cover the cost of educating our students.
The Annual Fund raises funds to cover this gap. Giving to the Fraser Woods Montessori School Annual Fund is a very personal expression of your belief in the school's mission, and your commitment to supporting each student’s unique gift for learning.
This year our goal is to raise $80,000 with 100% participation.
We ask each member of our community to make a gift that is personally significant. Your donation is an investment in your child's education, an endorsement of Fraser Woods Montessori School mission, and a gift that will benefit every FWM student.
Gifts may be paid by cash, check, credit card, securities or pledges fullfilled over the course of the fiscal year, and matching gifts from your employer can help you to increase the size of your gift. Leadership gifts are recognized at a gracious givers reception in the fall of the following academic year. Thank you!
Give to the Fraser Woods Montessori School Annual Fund.
Why does FWM have an Annual Fund?
Fraser Woods Montessori School, like virtually all independent schools and colleges, relies on unrestricted tax-deductible gifts to meet annual operating expenses. Tuition does not cover all the annual operating expenses, and the difference between what tuition and fees cover and what is left is called “the gap,” valued at roughly $2,000 per student. Every Student enrolled in the FWM (full day) relies on the generosity of our parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents and friends of FWM to cover the “gap". Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund provide opportunities for all FWM students to become their best.
Annual giving helps bridge this gap and keeps our financial base strong while enabling us to attract and retain specially trained teachers and keep a beautiful environment while maintaining a low student-teacher ratio.
Why not charge for this “gap” in tuition?
On a practical level, the Board of Trustees tries to keep tuition as low as possible so as many families as possible can afford to send their children to Fraser Woods Montessori School. The Board feels it is important to keep our tuition competitive with other independent schools, but is also committed to maintaining our small class sizes and academic excellence.
On a philosophical level, charitable giving ensures we can sustain Fraser Woods’ excellence. American schools and colleges were built on the generosity of others because the belief in the value of education was (and is) so strong. Fraser Woods’ value to its students and other constituents is clearly measurable. We all can and should be very proud of that.
Why should I give more? I pay tuition.
Tuition does not cover the cost of educating your child. When you chose a Fraser Woods Montessori education for your child, you made a conscious choice for quality. Your gift to Fraser Woods Montessori School Annual Fund helps to preserve that quality.
Voluntary gifts to quality educational institutions are a tradition in this country. Parents and alumni of independent schools, colleges and universities recognize this fact across the country—and also by hundreds of corporations through their matching gift programs. Such a gift is your way of demonstrating your support to advance the school's educational priorities.
What is the difference between the Annual Fund and the Annual Spring Auction?
The Annual Fund campaign is FWM’s top fundraising priority. Gifts to the Annual Fund offset the yearly operating budget whereas the annual Spring Auction raises funds to support diversity through tuition assistance.
How much am I expected to give to the Annual Fund?
All gifts are welcome and count, regardless of size, in helping us reach our yearly goal. We hope that every parent will be as generous as possible, and for each family that amount may be different.
Why is participation so important?
Every dollar gift, no matter what the size, is needed and important. Strong participation within our school community attracts greater opportunities for grants from banking institutions and foundations. Broad-based participation from the parent body also helps major donors determine their level of giving.
Do I have to pay all at once?
Most gifts are paid all at once but you may opt to pay in monthly installments. The annual fund fiscal year runs from July 1st through June 30th.
