Welcome to Art exploration with our lower school students!

Greetings from Art. Here are some pics of our lower school students exploring a basic element of art; line. Students created their “Loopy Line Designs” with crayons and washable markers. We talked about and pointed out all kinds of lines , from vertical, horizontal and diagonal straight lines to swirly, curly and zig-zag lines. Students began their designs with a loopy line that filled the page and then filled the enclosed shapes that line created with other lines, patterns and colors.

100 Mile Club!

In PE class The 100 Mile Club is off to a great start!

Students are running during morning fitness, during recess and during PE class.  The philosophy of 100 Mile Club is to engage and empower children and families to achieve a healthy lifestyle through physical activity nationwide; preventing childhood inactivity and obesity, one child, one school, and one community at a time.

The 100 Mile Club met for the first time on Wednesday September 20th!  It was a great turnout with over 33 students in attendance! We first warmed up in the gym doing some calisthenic workouts to warm up our bodies.  We then broke off into three groups.  Each group came up with a name for their team.  Teams are designed so that students would encourage and motivate one another as they exercise to achieve a common goal.  Students independently track their laps around the field by collecting a Popsicle stick every time they ran or walked one time around the soccer field.  We ended the club five minutes early so that we could their Popsicle sticks and track everyone’s miles.  Many students were so motivated to run, they asked if they can run even more laps!

I encourage parents to sign up their child for the 100 Mile Club after-school.  Parents are also welcome to join us to walk and run on the soccer field on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4PM.  Please note the club does not meet on the first Wednesday of the month and that the age group for this club is from grades 1st through 8th. I hope to see you on the field!

News from Music Room

HAPPY MOMENTS IN MUSIC MAKING

Toddlers were very happy and fully engaged in our music class in their own environment. We played egg shakers with ‘Biddy Biddy’ and ‘Let’s Find Them!’ for hiding and discovering our body parts using scarves. Gross motor skills were practiced while we were having so much fun.  The most favored movement was, of course JUMPING.  ‘Ring Around the Rosie’ came to the rescue for some down time. ‘Good bye’ was sung, promising for our next time together.

Lower Elementary French class

The second year students, as well as all the students in the Lower Elementary, are working on learning vocabulary for all the materials in the classroom as well as how to tell our name. We are making name tags for each other and we are playing different bingo games in order to learn all the necessary vocabulary involved in this unit. We also use the website Quizlet.com and we play most of the online learning games offered by this site. Our goal for this unit is to memorize the names of all the things we use in classroom in order to understand what the teacher is asking us to do at certain times during the class. The more the words that are used and said, the better the students will learn them. Please remind your child that they have the option use Quizlet.com at home if they want to practice.
