They say the best weeks are the simplest, and they were definitely right. This week we enjoyed the little things, bubbles, bug hunting, good music, and delicious pineapple! I asked the children, “What are your favorite works? The children helped choose different works that we have had throughout the year and got to help set them out in the classroom! They were overjoyed to have works they loved out again. Just a reminder in these crazy weeks ahead to keep it simple and full of love.

We definitely hopped into a good time this week! Our daily adventures around the Fraser Woods campus always give us a deep appreciation for nature and for its incredible creatures! We had the joy of seeing a Copes Tree Frog…..also known as “peepers” up close! The children were very curious about the frog’s sticky toes and why it was not green!! We read many books explaining camouflage in animals! Next week, the children are in for a wonderful surprise!!! We will have tadpoles in our classroom, which will help us to understand and see the life cycle of a frog up close!

The week has been amazing, full of great work, lots of learning, fun food tasting and baking, and most importantly, the celebration of a birthday in the classroom!

Rain, Rain, Go Away! This week has been filled with many rain showers, making the week a little different. We literally went with the weather, if it was sunny we ran with it, raining we stopped to admire or sigh! On Tuesday we went out and it was sunny blue skies, which quickly turned to misty rain, we simply embraced it. We played in the misty rain, jumped in puddles and enjoyed being outside!

With our limited time outside we enjoyed making guacamole with Mrs. Lizette and tasting each ingredient! The limes were the star of the show. I was quite surprised at the children’s eagerness to try cilantro! We also made a delicious carrot cake with extra carrots, dried cherries and pumpkin seeds! The children devoured the carrot cake, with so many healthy new ingredients, I was really surprised!

The outpouring of love and appreciation this week has been so deeply appreciated. I admit I am not a overly emotional person, but your cards…..they touched my heart, and left me teary. Thank you for sharing your children with us each day, its a honor and a joy to be with them.

Spring Work and Play!

Springtime is such a special time; it reminds us to get out and explore! We have been exploring many new classroom works, and outside, we have been enjoying our beautiful campus at Fraser Woods. The yellow blooms have the children exploring our playground, making pretend soups, and gifting tiny little yellow blooms to their friends. Many children love to sit or run through the tunnel of flowers, simply taking in nature. While this week has been short, it has been filled with laughter, kindness, and lots of big energy!

With the chilly temperatures this week, we enjoyed the process of creating art together! Mrs. Reed, our in-house artist and art teacher, helped our classroom create a modern piece of art for our school’s auction item! Each child explored and chose colors that they wanted to include in our project. They got to smear the paint down to create a colorful background. When it was finished, the children were very happy because they could look and see who made swivels, swirls, and big lines.

As always, we worked hard between creating works of art and, of course, our favorite baking. Our zucchini bread was back by popular demand!

Our week has been a great opportunity to view the changes in weather; the children love singing our  “What is the Weather” song to describe the weather each day. We continue to talk about what makes spring, spring! We planted some seed starts this week- flowers, of course! The children have a very keen eye for growing plants and for the new types of birds showing up at our feeder. They are very excited that we have a cardinal now.

The highlight of the week that the children enjoyed most was definitely making chocolate zucchini bread! When I asked the children if they liked zucchini, they all said, ” Ewww.” So I switched up our game plan, and we “hid” it in our bread! The children followed the baking sequence beautifully; they now know what to do with minimal help. They enjoyed each step, especially the sharing and eating!

Finally, Spring!!! This week, it’s been such a joy welcoming the children back after the long break. The children were eager to return to different works throughout the classroom. We have enjoyed each sunny day, playing, walking, digging, climbing, and running as fast as we can! The children this week have been embracing and exploring all of the different qualities of spring. We have been exploring different types of eggs and who might grow in them!

We have the beauty of the Fraser Woods campus to explore many different types of spring flowers. The miniature daffodils growing outside of our classroom have been a highlight in our week, the beautiful yellow and as one student said “they smells good ones”. One of the most treasured photos from this week is of the children exploring the daffodils, passing them to each other, exploring, observing, and touching the petals with a sense of wonder and gentleness.
